Do you know Greek Black Metal and its specificities? I think of course of Rotting Christ or Varathron and their immoderate taste for a slow, heavy Black Metal, loaded with Heavy Metal (the guitars) and Death Metal (the vocals, the brutality). Well, you can forget all that with Hor, since this young Greek duo largely draws its influence from the Nordic Black Metal of the 90s (Mayhem, Burzum in particular) and more recent years.
Where Ophion and Throne strike hard is by offering a perfectly balanced album, straddling between the velocity of some tracks, heavy passages, icy deadly ambiences, and, above all, tracks composed in a way that makes a homogeneous whole without being ever painful or repetitive. Throne's vocals are perfect: screamed just the right amount, and blend perfectly with the tremolo guitars. So, of course, we're not going to pretend that Hor reinvents Black Metal, but that's not what they're about: this is good music to get in your ears, classic and deliciously offered Black Metal. The two Greeks amaze us insofar as it's a first album (you have to know that!) and we don't have any trace of the two musicians on other projects (yet, they don't sound like novices at all).
Sanit Mils records has released the album on LP Vinyl with a print run of 100 copies (magnificent!) while a tape version has been released by Immortal Ruins, on cd by Metal Throne Records store.
Do you like unhealthy, tortured, black and melancholic Black Metal? Do you like productions that are neither smooth nor raw? Then this album will get stuck in your head and never come out! It's no coincidence that this album landed in my top 2019! To get it urgently!

Vous connaissez le Black Metal grec et ses particularismes ? Je pense bien sûr a Rotting Christ ou Varathron et leur goût immodéré pour un Black Metal lent, lourd, chargé en Heavy Metal (les guitares) et en Death Metal (le chant, la brutalité). Eh bien vous pouvez oublier tout cela avec Hor, puisque ce jeune duo grec tire largement son influence du Black Metal nordiques des années 90 (Mayhem, Burzum notamment) et plus récentes.
Là où Ophion et Throne frappent fort, c'est en proposant un album parfaitement équilibré, à cheval entre vélocité de certains titres, passages lourds, ambiances mortifères glaçantes, et, surtout, des titres composés de façon à composer un tout homogène sans être jamais pénible ou répétitif. Le chant de Throne est parfait : hurlé juste ce qu'il faut, et se mêle parfaitement aux guitares en trémolo. Alors, bien sûr, on ne va pas prétendre que Hor réinvente le Black Metal mais là n'est pas leur propos : il s'agit ici de bonne musique à se caler dans les oreilles, de Black Metal classique et délicieusement offert. Les deux grecs nous épatent dans la mesure où il s'agit d'un premier album (il faut le savoir !) et que l'on n'a pas trace des deux musiciens sur d'autres projets (pourtant, ils ne sonnent pas du tout comme des novices).
