Pas toujours facile de mixer différents genres de Metal sans tomber dans le risque d'une soupe indigeste ! Pourtant, les alsaciens de Downright Malice ont trouvé la formule magique qui leur permet d'assembler un heavy metal très maidenesque, avec des éléments death et hardcore dans les vocaux, des blasts entre death et black, des riffs thrash qui sentent parfois le diabolus in musica façon Slayer, tout cela en ayant le souci de composer de vrais chansons, avec des mélodies qui accrochent, deux vocalistes qui se partagent les voix claires et saturées, pour un (déjà !) cinquième album (il faut dire que le groupe existe depuis 1987 !) intitulé Mechanica Temporis...
On sent que les gars du grand est ont bouffé de la scène depuis 35 ans pour en arriver là : l'expérience paie, le travail aussi, tenons le nous pour dit ! Les dix titres s'enfilent avec un plaisir sans faille, variés et bien composés, à la fois mélodiques, sombres et parfois brutaux, avec à la clé la recette infaillible du Metal : des riffs qui tuent, un batteur infaillible, des mélodies qui trouent le cerveau pour ne plus en sortir, et une énergie de tous les instants qui nous change de la pop actuelle, molle comme un saucisson pas sec. Bref, vous l'avez compris, Downright Malice coche toutes les cases !
Si le Metal du groupe peut apparaître "traditionnel" à ceux qui ne jurent que par les versions modernes du genre, je demande à tous de bien tendre l'oreille car, si Downright Malice s'est approprié cette tradition dont il fait partie du fait de son ancienneté, il reste un groupe au son actuel, et son énergie est communicative et sans âge...
Avec Mechanica Temporis, Downright Malice nous prouve que l'on peut mixer heavy metal version NWOBHM, thrash, Death, black et hardcore sans jamais ennuyer l'auditeur bien au contraire, un disque fédérateur qui devrait concilier toute la famille du Metal !

It's not always easy to mix different kinds of Metal without the risk of an indigestible soup! However, the Alsatians of Downright Malice have found the magic formula that allows them to assemble a very Maidenesque heavy metal, with death and hardcore elements in the vocals, blasts between death and black, thrash riffs that sometimes smell like Slayer's diabolus in musica, all of this with the concern of composing real songs, with catchy melodies, two vocalists sharing the clear and saturated vocals, for an (already! ) fifth album (it must be said that the band exists since 1987!) entitled Mechanica Temporis...
We can feel that the guys from the east have been playing for 35 years to get to this point: experience pays, work also, let's say it! The ten tracks are a pleasure to listen to, varied and well composed, melodic, dark and sometimes brutal, with the infallible recipe of Metal: killer riffs, an infallible drummer, melodies that pierce the brain and never come out, and a constant energy that changes us from the current pop, soft as a sausage not dry. In short, you've understood, Downright Malice ticks all the boxes!
If the band's metal may seem "traditional" to those who only swear by modern versions of the genre, I ask everyone to listen carefully because, if Downright Malice has appropriated this tradition of which it is a part because of its age, it remains a band with a current sound, and its energy is communicative and ageless...
With Mechanica Temporis, Downright Malice proves that you can mix heavy metal, NWOBHM version, thrash, death, black and hardcore without ever boring the listener, on the contrary, a federative record that should conciliate the whole Metal family!
