NEW REVIEW - DSM - ELEVATIONS - 2020 - POST DEATH METAL
DSM ou Delicate Sound of Murder, est un groupe venu de Lorraine, qui sort avec ce Élévations un deuxième album composé d'un metal extrême moderne, piochant aussi bien dans le deathcore, le death metal que le black metal...
Bien que je ne sois pas un grand amateur de sonorités "modernes" ou plutôt "post-modernes", je me suis intéressé au cas de ces jeunes gens car, comme toujours, même si ce n'est pas à priori ma tasse de thé, je relève toujours des exceptions à la règle, et des groupes qui transcendent le truc.
Et DSM fait bien partie de cette catégorie, qui, au milieu d'un tripotée de groupes plus insipides les uns que les autres, refourguant toujours la même camelote sans état d'âme (sans âme ?) avec un son manufacturé. Bien que la production soit ici très sage et axée sur la puissance, elle n'est pas non plus lisse au point de rendre la bête inoffensive. Non, ce que j'ai apprecié dans cet album, ce sont les qualités de composition des mecs (une bonne chanson est TOUJOURS une bonne chanson) et un sens du "groove" qui rend leur mixture des plus digestes.
Alors, bien sûr, le disque n'est pas exempt de défauts, comme ce chant trop monocorde qui lasse un peu sur la durée, ou certains riffs qui gagneraient à aller chercher davantage d'originalité, mais on ne peut pas dire que l'ensemble ne se tienne pas bien, au contraire.
Juste un conseil pour ces jeunes gens : à l'avenir n'hésitez pas à prendre plus de risques, vous y gagnerez au change. Cet album est de bon augure, avec ces titres qui vous accrochent bien la cervelle et donnent toujours envie d'y revenir. Dans cette période de transition entre les artefacts musicaux de la fin du XXème siècle et ces jeunes loups qui essaient tant bien que mal d'imposer une nouvelle marque, il se pourrait bien que DSM ait sa carte à jouer.
Avec cet album, DSM s'impose comme un espoir de la scène française en matière de Metal Extrême, espoir qu'il leur appartient maintenant de convertir sur la durée.

Although I'm not a big fan of "modern" or rather "post-modern" sounds, I was interested in the case of these young people because, as always, even if it's not a priori my cup of tea, I always find exceptions to the rule, and bands that transcend the thing.
And DSM is indeed part of this category, who, in the middle of a bunch of bands, each one more insipid than the other, always pushing the same junk (without soul?) with a manufactured sound. Although the production here is very wise and power-oriented, it's not so smooth as to render the beast harmless either. No, what I liked about this album are the composition qualities of the guys (a good song is ALWAYS a good song) and a sense of "groove" that makes their mix very digestible.
So, of course, the record isn't free of flaws, like this too monotonous vocal that wearies a bit over time, or some riffs that would gain to go looking for more originality, but we can't say that the whole doesn't hold together well, on the contrary.
Just a piece of advice for these young people: in the future, don't hesitate to take more risks, you will gain in exchange. This album is a good omen, with these tracks that catch your brain and always make you want to come back to it. In this period of transition between the musical artefacts of the end of the 20th century and these young wolves trying as best they can to impose a new brand, DSM may well have its card to play.
With this album, DSM is establishing itself as a hope for the French Extreme Metal scene, a hope that it is now up to them to convert over time.
