Bon, l'hiver est là, le moral dans les chaussettes, période de Noël c'est à dire la période la plus déprimante de l'année, le covid nous pèse dessus comme un couvercle de plus en plus lourd.
Comment se faire aider par la musique ? Allons nous dégainer nos albums de black metal dépressif ? Bah, on peut essayer, c'est une catharis comme une autre. Mais il existe aussi la solution inverse : aller chercher un truc péchu, pas prise de tête, bien foutu et entraînant. Figurez vous que Penny Was Right, groupe de punk rock mélodique parisien répond à tous ces critères et qu'en plus l'album sort aujourd'hui 10 décembre ! Au menu de leur album Happy Machine (le titre correspond bien) une chanteuse waouh qui me rappelle un croisement entre la grande Skin de Skunk Anansie (alias la déesse) et Pink, la chanteuse pop qui a l'une des plus belles voix qui soit. Bref, préliminaire plus qu'engageant, car la dame dépote sévère et se montre à l'aise dans tous les registres. Ajoutez à cela une section rythmique imparable et une guitare qui saccade comme il faut et envoie des riffs qui se mémorisent dès la première écoute (à la Skunk justement, mais aussi Blink 182 ou Green Day). Un concentré d'énergie mélodieuse, un rock qui nous prend par la main et nous donne envie de vivre et ça c'est quand même bien cool ! Vous l'aurez compris, le Dr Scribe vous fait une ordonnance de Happy Machine à écouter sans modération pour éloigner la morosité. Seul petit défaut du disque : les chansons sont un peu trop similaires, ce qui peut, à la longue, lasser.
Mais en dehors de ce petit défaut, le groupe m'a carrément séduit et je me languis de les voir sur scène, espace où, à mon avis, ils doivent donner la quintessence de leur art. Punk's Not Dead !

Well, winter is here, the mood is a bit sad, Christmas time that is to say the most depressing period of the year, the covid weighs on us like a lid increasingly heavy.
How to be helped by music? Shall we pull out our depressive black metal albums? Well, we can try, it's a catharis like any other. But there is also the opposite solution: go and find something catchy, not heady, well done and catchy. You can imagine that Penny Was Right, a melodic punk rock band from Paris, meets all these criteria and that the album is released today, December 10th ! On the menu of their album Happy Machine (the title corresponds well) a singer who reminds me of a cross between the great Skin of Skunk Anansie (aka the goddess) and Pink, the pop singer who has one of the most beautiful voices. In short, preliminary more than engaging, because the lady is very fast and shows herself at ease in all registers. Add to that an unstoppable rhythm section and a guitar that jerks as it should and sends riffs that are memorable from the first listening (like Skunk, but also Blink 182 or Green Day). A concentrate of melodious energy, a rock that takes us by the hand and makes us want to live and that's really cool! You will have understood it, Dr Scribe gives you a prescription of Happy Machine to listen without moderation to move away the gloom. The only small defect of the record: the songs are a little too similar, which can, in the long run, be tiring.
But apart from this little flaw, the band really seduced me and I'm longing to see them on stage, a place where, in my opinion, they must give the quintessence of their art. Punk's Not Dead !
