Ce n'est pas nouveau pour moi que de chroniquer les sorties du label Maltkross puisqu'il s'agit déjà du 4ème Crocs Du Scribe que je réserve au label sans compter les chroniques indépendantes et les interviews de ses groupes. Voici deux ans que je collabore avec le label de Clovis avec grand plaisir. Ce qui est nouveau pour moi dans cet article ce n'est pas le fait d'évoquer de nouvelles compilations du label, mais que je sois présent en tant qu'artiste (Punkosaur) sur le volume 6, réservé aux groupes affiliés à l'industriel, à la Noise et à la musique rituelle. Me retrouver sur la même galette que Melek-Tha ou Drowning Hope, entre autres, est pour moi un grand honneur. Voici donc deux compilations gorgées de groupes 100 % underground et sans compromis. La numéro 5 est quant à elle réservée aux groupes de black metal les plus old school du label. Encore merci Clovis pour ces piqûres de rappel qui nous permettent de ne pas oublier que sous la surface de la terre certains artistes fous continuent de porter la flamme !
2005/2020
A tous les amateurs de black metal raffiné, moderne, voire "post", disons le tout net, cette compilation ne vous est pas, a priori, destinée, mais pas d'interdiction si vous souhaitez vous prendre quelques mandales par des groupes qui n'ont pas oublié leurs racines ancrées dans le thrash metal, le vieux death, et la première vague du black metal. Des groupes qui ne font pas dans la dentelle, mais davantage dans le bulldozer, mais un bulldozer occulte, au service de vous savez qui...
Certains noms ici présents seront familiers des amateurs de brutalité primitive, de war metal et autres joyeusetés, je pense a Inkisitor, Seges Findere, Excrutiate 666, Lord et autres Massemord. Ca vous donne le ton de la compilation. Compilation qui démarre d'ailleurs avec Eradication, groupe français culte du début des années 2000 (avec mon pote Sad a la batterie, mais aussi Kaiser Whodanaz (Ad Hominem, Cantus Bestiae, F.A.M.A.S) à la guitare et au chant pour un black metal haineux et noir comme on en fait plus guère de nos jours. Ce titre est extrait du seul album du groupe, paru en 2004, The great Cleaning. On enchaine avec Lord, groupe de black/thrash bien primitif de la même époque (et dire qu'ils avaient débuté dans le BM symphonique !) aux relents 80's rafraichissants. A noter que ce groupe du nord de la France sera le premier de Unholy, futur fondateur d'Unholy War, groupe de black metal franco-allemand dont l'unique EP m'a tant séduit il y a deux ou trois ans. On enchaine avec le très raw black/thrash d'Afflictis Lentae, avec un titre datant de 2008, au son de démo tape, et proposant un truc plus old school tu meurs. Apparemment le nancéen a, depuis, pris fait et cause pour le thrash metal. Mais quelle haine distillée ! De la haine tu en veux encore plus ? Pas de problème, voici venir les très furibards F.A.M.A.S évoqués un peu plus haut au sujet d'Eradication : un War Metal des familles qui distille les coups de canon et les bombes façon Angelcorpse grande époque. Le titre est tiré de leur unique démo de 2008. Les belges de Goat Pervërsor faisaient dans le black/thrash le plus cradingue et charbonneux, et cet extrait de leur première démo de 2011 en est un illustre témoignage ! Inkisitor, du Mans, autre groupe culte du BM underground français, prend le relais avec son black metal très noir et haineux, qui, malgré le fait que ce titre soit extrait de leur unique album de 2011, existerait toujours. A noter la présence de Sad, mon pote, ici aussi derrière les futs. Depuis 2014 le groupe serait devenu un duo (selon metal archives) composé de Pie 666 (guitariste depuis les débuts) et Thomas (Gotholocaust, Les Chants de Nihil) a la batterie. A suivre. Dans un registre plus punk, voici venir les finlandais de Angra Ahriman, avec un extrait de leur album de 2016, un black metal très old school et très punk comme je le disais. Nous poursuivons avec les slovaques de Devil's Poison et leur black metal très crado aux relents death metal des cavernes, du pur et dur, daté de 2016. Kommandant prennent le relais et le moins que l'on puisse dire est que les américains, avec leur black/death violent et tendant vers le war metal ne font de détails ni de prisonniers, mais se permettent quelques bizarreries bienvenues sur ce titre de 2015 très fantomatique, qui, sans lui ressembler, évoque la folie d'un Beherit ou d'un Celtic Frost. Les tendances industrielles du groupe viennent en rajouter une couche en matière de folie et de noirceur. Le montpelliérain de NKVD arrive alors avec un black metal industriel et martial, extrait de l'album de 2011, pour un rendu oppressant et tyrannique. Place aux norvégiens de Massemord pour un extrait de leur album de 2017 et un black metal mélancolique et écœuré, assez typique du son de Norvège des années 90. A noter que le groupe, a la discographie déjà fort longue a sorti un nouvel album en 2020. Les vénézuéliens d'Okkult font davantage dans un black/death metal inspiré par Blasphemy, bestial et occulte, avec ce chant/lamentation réverbéré et lointain, et cet assaut sonore impitoyable. Prevenge, one man band américain (a ne pas confondre avec les fous furieux de Revenge), donne dans un black metal dissonant et tortueux, noir comme du charbon, et possédé par une forme de folie sans doute incurable.
Ulven, également américain, donne dans un black metal mid tempo sonnant comme une version crasseuse de Satyricon. Nous passons ensuite a Altar Of Blood qui nous vient du Mexique, avec une déferlante black/death qui commence comme une sorte de messe noire, pour déboucher sur un war metal sans pitié, aux guitares hyper saturées, au "chant" aboyé et à la batterie transformée en mitrailleuse. Chaoshorde, les grecs, nous renvoient dans les 80's avec un mix de speed/thrash et black des familles tout a fait réjouissant et punky. Hell To Genocide enchaine avec un black/death/thrash noir comme du charbon et franchement inhumain. Les italiens d'Iskhathron font dans un black metal très sinueux et dissonant, avec un versant expérimental, parfois proche d'un Bèlkètre moderne voire du côté le plus black metal de Blut Aus Nord. Les finlandais de Ondfodt font dans un black très raw, cruel et sans pitié, malgré un tempo plutôt modéré et des riffs qui sonnent à mort ! Les excellents serbes de Satan's Acolytes nous balancent leur mix de punk hardcore et de speed metal satanique a la gueule et on en redemande ! Putain c'est trop bon, comme si Discharge et Bathory avaient eu des bébés ! On revient en France avec les excellents Excrutiate 666 et leur black/death de barjots, violent, vil et rapide comme la mort. Les mexicains de Necroneutron enchainent avec leur black/thrash entamé avec un "ugh" digne de Tom Warrior, classique mais toujours efficace, et franchement on croirait un Celtic Frost sous speed ! Les chiliens de Repugnatory arrivent ensuite avec un black/thrash tout aussi old school et jouissif, même s'ils n'inventent rien. Les très méchants Seges Findere du Brésil nous terrassent avec leur bestial/war metal très bruyant, rapide et méchant comme le ténia. Les indonésiens de Sereignos sont tout aussi jouissifs avec un black death sans mélodie, d'une rapidité (boite a rythmes me voila) folle et mal embouché. Les brésiliens de Satanicommand ont la rude tâche de boucler les débats, avec un black metal très obscur...
Voilà, 26 titres plus variés que l'on pourrait le croire, une compilation gorgée jusqu'à la gueule de groupes mal famés, qui nous rappellent ce que peut être le black metal, un sale gosse crado comme un peigne, qui ne veut faire copain avec personne. Une compilation d'utilité publique !
Bon, c'est là que ça se corse, comme dirait Tino Rossi. Pourquoi ? Parce que j'ai participé à cette compilation avec mon projet Punkosaur. Oh, rassurez vous, je ne parlerai pas de ma contribution avec un titre, et je ne dirai pas a quel point je suis génial 😆😆😆Non, il se trouve que nous sommes 18 a avoir participé a cette compilation, et donc il y a 17 groupes dont je peux parler. Bienvenue dans un autre aspect de ce que Maltkross propose : une sélection de ces meilleurs prods en matière d'indus, power noise et rituel, entre 2008 et 2020, avec deux titres plus anciens (2004 et 2005) pour lancer les hostilités.
Hostilités qui commencent dans la mélodie avec le groupe de Hanovre Traum'er Leben, qui donne dans le darkfolk. La chanteuse (qui partage le micro avec un gars) a une voix vraiment intéressante, plutôt alto. Très beau titre. Stielhandgranate, qui prend le relais, est beaucoup plus sulfureux, et donne à entendre un industriel martial aux idéaux d'une Allemagne où l'on aimait beaucoup les cheveux blonds et pas trop les sémites. Ceci dit le titre est vraiment bon, et les parties orchestrales vraiment intéressantes. Avec Abjection Ritual la noirceur monte encore d'un ton, avec une sorte de death industrial occulte et grésillant. Prêts pour continuer votre descente aux enfers ? Bienvenue chez les russes de Bolverkstorm et leur industrial/noise satanique qui ne nous prévoit rien de bon pour l'avenir. Les bulgares de Fasci Di Combattimento (un nom sans équivoque pour les nostalgiques du Duce) proposent un réussi mélange d'ambient sombre et d'industriel martial. Le Revers Sanglant (quel nom excellent) font aussi dans le martial mais avec une touche expérimentale bien poussée (ils ont même fait un split avec le copain Napharion pour son Markab Project). Les voix trafiquées aux textes en français m'ont rappelé les tous premiers Die Form. Avec les espagnols de Fragmented Eradiction nous passons un cap en matière d'extrémisme puisque nous voici dans le très douloureux terrain de jeu de ce que l'on appelle "torture harsh noise". Bref, beaucoup de saturation, de bruits déplaisants, pour des thématiques toutes aussi glauques. A déconseiller aux âmes sensibles ! Orgasm Through Torture, qui lui succède, et comme son nom l'indique, ne fait pas davantage dans la dentelle. Si le nom vous rappellera (peut être) un titre de Cannibal Corpse, dites vous bien que les papes du brutal death, à côté de ça, sont de doux troubadours. OTT fait de la harsh noise, de la vraie, avec des murs de larsens, des cris de souffrance, des thématiques porno/sm, bref, le fond du fond de l'extrémisme musical. On reste dans la harsh noise avec les espagnols de Subjugation, mais cette fois sur une thématique beaucoup plus politisée (petit indice : ils ne militent pas pour Black Lives Matter). On reste en Espagne, mais on change de style : pour se reposer des assauts harsh noise voici le dark ambient de The Shrine, très sombre et parfois bruitiste, mais tout de même une accalmie par rapport aux monstres des pistes précédentes. Les irlandais de Xeropulse font dans l'inclassable : un mélange d'indus, de dark ambient expérimental tout a fait plaisant.
Group Therapy nous ramènent dans l'enfer de la noise, et le mot enfer n'est pas déplacé tant on se croirait dans les derniers cercles infernaux avec ce titre férocement satanique et psychiatrique a la fois : des voix échappées d'asiles psychiatriques semblent nous poursuivre dans les couleurs (Gulaggh m'entendez vous ?). J'ai déjà dit tout le bien que je pensais de Drowning Hope dans ces pages, et leur dark ambient diabolique continue de m'envoûter. Melek-Tha et son rituel ambient tout aussi satanique est culte depuis longtemps, et fort apprécié dans le milieu du metal extrême, ce n'est pas ce titre qui semble composé par Satan en personne qui fera changer d'avis les amateurs. Abysmal Growls Of Despair c'est carrément une invocation démoniaque en direct : un rituel satanique comme enregistré en cachette, une véritable expérience. Sonne Und Stahl nous ramène en territoire politisé, sur un fond de martial industriel fort abouti. Pour finir, Sonnenrad, venu d'Espagne, est tout aussi politisé mais pratique une harsh noise abrasive, un bruit blanc plus blanc que blanc !
It is not new for me to review the releases of the Maltkross label since it is already the 4th Crocs Du Scribe that I reserve to the label without counting the independent reviews and the interviews of its bands. It's been two years that I collaborate with the label of Clovis with great pleasure. What is new for me in this article is not the fact of evoking new compilations of the label, but that I am present as an artist (Punkosaur) on the volume 6, reserved to the groups affiliated to the industrial, to the Noise and to the ritual music. To find myself on the same album as Melek-Tha or Drowning Hope, among others, is for me a great honor. Here are two compilations full of 100% underground and uncompromising bands. The number 5 is reserved to the most old school black metal bands of the label. Thanks again Clovis for these reminders that allow us not to forget that under the surface of the earth some crazy artists continue to carry the flame!

SPECIAL OLD SCHOOL BLACK METAL

To all the lovers of refined, modern, even "post" black metal, let's say it straight, this compilation is not, a priori, intended for you, but no prohibition if you wish to take some mandals by bands who have not forgotten their roots anchored in thrash metal, old death, and the first wave of black metal. Bands that don't do it with lace, but more with a bulldozer, but an occult bulldozer, at the service of you know who...
Some of the names here will be familiar to fans of primitive brutality, war metal and other joys, I think of Inkisitor, Seges Findere, Excrutiate 666, Lord and others Massemord. That gives you the tone of the compilation. Compilation which starts with Eradication, a cult French band from the early 2000's (with my buddy Sad on drums, but also Kaiser Whodanaz (Ad Hominem, Cantus Bestiae, F.A.M.A.S) on guitar and vocals for a black metal hateful and black as it is hardly made nowadays. This track is extracted from the only album of the band, released in 2004, The great Cleaning. We go on with Lord, a very primitive black/thrash band from the same period (and to think that they had started in symphonic BM!) with refreshing 80's touches. Note that this band from the north of France will be the first of Unholy, future founder of Unholy War, a French-German black metal band whose unique EP seduced me so much two or three years ago. We go on with the very raw black/thrash of Afflictis Lentae, with a track dating from 2008, with the sound of a demo tape, and proposing something more old school you die. Apparently, the band from Nancy has since taken up the cause of thrash metal. But what hatred distilled! You want more hate? No problem, here come the very furious F.A.M.A.S mentioned above about Eradication: a War Metal of the families which distils the blows of cannon and the bombs like Angelcorpse great time. The title is taken from their only demo of 2008. The Belgians of Goat Pervërsor were into the most dirty and smutty black/thrash, and this extract from their first demo of 2011 is an illustrious testimony of it! Inkisitor, from Le Mans, another cult band of the French BM underground, takes over with its very black and hateful black metal, which, despite the fact that this track is taken from their only album of 2011, would still exist. Kommandant take over and the least we can say is that the Americans, with their violent black/death tending towards war metal, don't take any details or prisoners, but allow themselves some welcome weirdness on this very ghostly 2015 track, which, without sounding like it, evokes the madness of a Beherit or a Celtic Frost. The band's industrial tendencies add another layer of madness and darkness. NKVD from Montpellier then arrives with an industrial and martial black metal, taken from the 2011 album, for an oppressive and tyrannical rendering. Then the Norwegians of Massemord for an extract of their 2017 album and a melancholic and sickened black metal, quite typical of the sound of Norway in the 90s. Note that the band, with its already long discography, has released a new album in 2020. The Venezuelans of Okkult are more into a black/death metal inspired by Blasphemy, bestial and occult, with this reverberated and distant vocal/lamentation, and this merciless sound assault. Prevenge, an American one-man band (not to be confused with the madmen of Revenge), gives in a dissonant and tortuous black metal, black as coal, and possessed by a form of madness probably incurable.
Ulven, also American, gives in a mid tempo black metal sounding like a grimy version of Satyricon. Then we move on to Altar Of Blood from Mexico, with a black/death surge that starts like a kind of black mass, and ends up in a merciless war metal, with hyper saturated guitars, barked vocals and drums transformed into a machine gun. Chaoshorde, the Greeks, send us back to the 80's with a mix of speed/thrash and black of the families quite delightful and punky. Hell To Genocide follows with a black/death/thrash as black as coal and frankly inhuman. The Italians of Iskhathron do a very sinuous and dissonant black metal, with an experimental side, sometimes close to a modern Bèlkètre or even the most black metal side of Blut Aus Nord. The Finnish of Ondfodt are in a very raw, cruel and merciless black metal, in spite of a rather moderate tempo and riffs that sound like death! The excellent Serbians of Satan's Acolytes throw their mix of hardcore punk and satanic speed metal in our faces and we want more! It's too fucking good, as if Discharge and Bathory had had babies! We come back to France with the excellent Excrutiate 666 and their black/death of crazy, violent, vile and fast as death. The Mexicans of Necroneutron follow with their black/thrash started with a "ugh" worthy of Tom Warrior, classic but still effective, and frankly one would believe a Celtic Frost under speed! The Chileans of Repugnatory come next with a black/thrash just as old school and enjoyable, even if they don't invent anything. The very nasty Seges Findere from Brazil are devastating us with their bestial/war metal, very noisy, fast and nasty as the tapeworm. The Indonesian Sereignos are just as enjoyable with a black death without melody, with a crazy speed (drum machine here I come) and badly plugged. The Brazilians of Satanicommand have the hard task to close the debates, with a very dark black metal...
Here it is, 26 tracks more varied than one could believe, a compilation full of bad bands, which remind us what black metal can be, a dirty kid like a comb, who doesn't want to be friends with anyone. A compilation of public utility!

SPECIAL INDUS/NOISE/RITUAL

Well, this is where it gets tough, as Tino Rossi would say. Why? Because I participated to this compilation with my project Punkosaur. Oh, don't worry, I won't talk about my contribution with a title, and I won't say how great I am 😆😆😆No, it turns out that there are 18 of us who participated in this compilation, and so there are 17 bands I can talk about. Welcome to another aspect of what Maltkross offers: a selection of these best indus, power noise and ritual prods, between 2008 and 2020, with two older tracks (2004 and 2005) to start the hostilities.
Hostilities that start in the melody with the band from Hanover Traum'er Leben, which gives in the darkfolk. The singer (who shares the mic with a guy) has a really interesting voice, rather alto. Very nice track. Stielhandgranate, which takes over, is much more sulphurous, and gives to hear a martial industrialist to the ideals of a Germany where we liked blond hair and not too much Semites. That said, the track is really good, and the orchestral parts really interesting. With Abjection Ritual the darkness goes up a notch, with a kind of occult and sizzling death industrial. Ready to continue your descent into hell? Welcome to the Russian Bolverkstorm and their satanic industrial/noise that doesn't predict anything good for the future. The Bulgarians of Fasci Di Combattimento (an unequivocal name for the nostalgic of the Duce) propose a successful mixture of dark ambient and martial industrial. Le Revers Sanglant (what an excellent name) also do martial music but with a very strong experimental touch (they even made a split with their friend Napharion for his Markab Project). The doctored voices with French lyrics reminded me of the very first Die Form. With the Spaniards of Fragmented Eradiction we go a step further in terms of extremism since we are in the very painful playground of what is called "torture harsh noise". In short, a lot of saturation, unpleasant noises, for themes all as gloomy. Not recommended for sensitive souls! Orgasm Through Torture, which succeeds it, and as its name indicates it, does not make more in the lace. If the name reminds you (maybe) of a Cannibal Corpse track, you can be sure that the popes of brutal death, next to that, are sweet troubadours. OTT makes harsh noise, real noise, with walls of feedback, screams of suffering, porn/sm themes, in short, the bottom of the bottom of musical extremism. We stay in the harsh noise with the Spanish of Subjugation, but this time on a much more politicized thematic (small clue: they do not militate for Black Lives Matter). We stay in Spain, but we change of style: to rest from the harsh noise assaults here is the dark ambient of The Shrine, very dark and sometimes noisy, but still a lull compared to the monsters of the previous tracks. The Irish of Xeropulse make in the unclassifiable: a mixture of indus, of experimental dark ambient quite pleasant.
Group Therapy bring us back in the hell of the noise, and the word hell is not misplaced so much one would believe himself in the last infernal circles with this ferociously satanic and psychiatric title at the same time: voices escaped from psychiatric asylums seem to pursue us in the colors (Gulaggh do you hear me?). I already said all the good things I thought about Drowning Hope in these pages, and their diabolical dark ambient continues to enchant me. Melek-Tha and its equally satanic ambient ritual has been a cult for a long time, and highly appreciated in the extreme metal scene, it is not this track that seems to be composed by Satan himself that will make fans change their mind. Abysmal Growls Of Despair is definitely a live demonic invocation: a satanic ritual as recorded in secret, a real experience. Sonne Und Stahl brings us back to politicized territory, on a background of very accomplished industrial martial. To finish, Sonnenrad, from Spain, is also politicized but practices an abrasive harsh noise, a whiter than white noise!
