Black Metal
It all starts with a magnificent introduction to keyboards, reminiscent of film music. But this calm augurs a severe storm!
From "Nuclear Salvation", the solo project of Kolan (Polish Black Metal activist also known for his contribution to Odour of Death and the radical band Antisemitex) now based somewhere in Great Britain made in pure hatred! Whether it's blast-beat passages or others on the contrary rather slow, on the borderline of Doom (the contrast is appreciable), Severe Storm doesn't do in "lace" and proposes a Black Metal inscribed in the Polish tradition of the 90s: fast, powerful, violent and above all: full of pure hate!
For more than 20 years (yes, 1998), Severe Storm has been distilling its rage on record and this (only) second album is no exception to the rule. Kolan's intelligence being, as I said above, to know how to play with tempos, in order to avoid the pitfall of a brutality that can weary over the length. Here the atmospheres are palpable, and if the riffs are effective and simple (a priori), the care taken to the whole is remarkable: the guitars are sometimes dissonant in the tremolos, adding a feeling of discomfort to the hatred here disgusted by Kolan.
A great Slavic Black Metal album, as your Scribe likes them: at the same time terribly black and violent but never to the detriment of the melancholic melodies typical of this Black Metal from the East which has become a must.

Tout commence par une magnifique introduction aux claviers, rappelant une musique de film. Mais ce calme présage d'une sevère tempête !
Dès "Nuclear Salvation", le projet solo de Kolan (activiste Black Metal polonais aussi connu pour sa contribution à Odour of Death et au groupe radical Antisemitex) désormais basé quelque part en grande bretagne fait dans la haine pure ! Qu'il s'agisse de passages en blast-beat ou d'autres au contraire plutôt lents, à la limite du Doom (le contraste est appréciable), Severe Storm ne fait pas dans "la dentelle" et propose un Black Metal inscrit dans la tradition polonaise des années 90 : rapide, puissant, violent et surtout : rempli de haine pure !
Depuis plus de 20 ans (eh oui, 1998), Severe Storm distille sa rage sur disque et ce (seulement) deuxième album n'échappe pas à la règle. L'intelligence de Kolan étant, comme je l'ai dit plus haut, de savoir jouer avec les tempos, afin d'éviter l'ecueil d'une brutalité pouvant lasser sur la longueur. Ici les atmosphères sont palpables, et si les riffs sont efficaces et simples (à priori), le soin apporté à l'ensemble est remarquable : les guitares se font parfois dissonantes dans les trémolos, rajoutant un sentiment de malaise à la haine ici dégueulée par le sieur Kolan.
Un grand album de Black Metal slave, comme votre Scribe les aime : à la fois terriblement noir et violent mais jamais au détriment de mélodies mélancoliques typiques de ce Black Metal venu de l'est qui est devenu un incontournable.
