Bonjour HEXEKRATION RITES ! Pouvez vous vous présenter aux lecteurs du Scribe ?
H.R (compositeur, chanteur, bassiste) : Bonjour Le Scribe, nous somme un groupe de Black/Death originaire de région parisienne qui fut formé aux alentours de 2015 par C.S (Guitariste) et moi-même. Nous avons sortis notre première démo fin 2018, puis notre EP Desekration Manifesto fin 2019 où nous avons été rejoins par Aryth à la batterie, ce qui nous a permis d’enchaîner sur une série de concerts début 2020 pour promouvoir l’EP.
Votre premier EP Desekration Manifesto sorti fin 2019 chez Atavism m'a retourné comme une crêpe ! C'est pas commun de se prendre un obus de black/death qui pue le danger comme ça ! Comment avez vous fait pour en arriver là ?
Comme tu le fais remarquer, la notion de « danger » à joué un rôle déterminant à cela : je pense qu’aujourd’hui trop de groupes de Black metal ne sont que des pastiches d’un style qui s’est peu à peu vu travestir avec l’émergence de sous-styles édulcorés (post-black metal notamment), se perdant dans des balivernes musicales vides de toute dangerosité, c’est à dire exempt de ce qui est censé être la nature même de ce style : la haine.
Avec HEXEKRATION RITES j’ai voulu aller à l’encontre de cette déviance en présentant ma vision d’une musique haineuse et glorieuse, le tout porté par de puissants et percutants riffs acérés.
A votre écoute on pense forcément aux grands maîtres que sont Archgoat ou Blasphemy mais en même temps vous nous embarquez vite dans votre truc...Quelles sont vos influences principales ?
Nos influences se situent là où nous pouvons puiser l’essence qui nous anime. Sans citer de noms en particulier, je dirais que notre musique s’apparente à un mélange de Black metal chaotique, de Death metal occulte et de Bestial Black metal, et cela suffira je pense à te synthétiser parfaitement notre dessein : une musique sulfureuse, ésotérique et intense.
Bossez vous sur un album, et si oui quand aurons nous le privilège de se faire massacrer ?
Nous travaillons effectivement sur un album pour faire suite à la démo et à l’EP. Une dizaine de morceaux sont en cours de finalisation pour une durée totale d’environ une heure : plutôt long pour le style, mais si tout les morceaux en valent la peine alors il en sera ainsi. Il n’y a pour l’instant pas vraiment de date de définie, car même si la composition musicale est quasiment terminée il reste encore beaucoup de travail annexe, donc disons au plus tôt (et idéalement) fin 2021, sinon courant 2022.
Ce qui frappe dans Desekration Manifesto c'est la place accordée aux ambiances, dans un sous-genre où elles font parfois défaut...Et moi j'aime ça les ambiances ! Avez vous consciemment soigné cela ?
Une ambiance c’est un contexte dans lequel on se trouve, une atmosphère dans laquelle on est transporté, une aura qui nous saisit par la gorge et nous submerge par la multitude d’émotions initialement insufflées lors de sa création. Vouloir faire ressentir une ambiance musicale, c’est donc vouloir faire ressentir cette volonté d’adjoindre une émotion particulièrement puissante, cette volonté de donner un fond à la forme : en définitive, c’est vouloir doter la musique d’une âme.
Votre musique dégage une profonde aura satanique (si j'osais le jeu de mots je dirais une aura noire!). Êtes vous pratiquants des arts noirs ? Et si oui dans quelle branche ?
Que je réponde oui ou non, finalement est-ce vraiment le plus important ? Si tu ressens une profonde aura mystique, crois-tu que cela puisse être le fruit du hasard, une sorte d’accident de parcours fortuit dont on s’accommoderait des conséquences providentielles ? La volonté d’un groupe d’individus a été mise en œuvre par un déploiement conjoint d’énergie, tu y a été réceptif et c’est tout ce qui compte : peu importe la branche, seule compte la sève qui s’y écoule et les racines dont elle provient.

Quelle est votre vision de notre époque ? Ce qui vous inquiète le plus ? Ce qui vous réjouit le plus ?
J’ai le sentiment depuis plusieurs années que nous arrivons à une sorte de tournant civilisationnel, matérialisé par une fuite en avant continuelle qui autorise de fait les dérives les plus néfastes : radicalisation des communautarismes, progressisme à outrance, capitalisme et mondialisation poussés à leurs paroxysme… on se demande chaque jour comment ça pourrait être pire, et ça finit par l’être. Parallèlement à cela, on assiste progressivement à un réveil du peuple, ces gens « normaux » qui, mis dos au mur par la violence financière, sociale ou religieuse semblent enfin émerger d’une torpeur souhaitée, voir même prescrite, et dont le masque en lambeau ne suffit plus à occulter des dizaines d’années de mensonges et de sacrifices, sur le dos d’un contrat social chaque jour un peu plus mis à mal. Cette lueur d’espoir est donc une réjouissance en cela, mais cela ne reste qu’une maigre braise qu’il va falloir entretenir et accroître face au tsunami qui pourrait déferler sur nous à tout moment.

Merci pour tes questions ! Nous sommes censé jouer au Winter Rising Festival en Novembre prochain, mais à l’heure où j’écris ces lignes je ne saurait dire si l’événement sera maintenu ou non. Évidemment, pas d’autre dates de prévues pour l’instant compte-tenu du blocage politique face à la situation sanitaire, donc rendez-vous en 2021 pour, je l’espère, d’autres dates de concerts... et pourquoi pas l’album !

Hello HEXEKRATION RITES! Can you introduce yourself to the readers of The Scribe?
H.R (composer, singer, bass player) : Hello Le Scribe, we are a Black/Death band from the Paris area that was formed around 2015 by C.S (Guitarist) and myself. We released our first demo at the end of 2018, then our EP "Desekration Manifesto" at the end of 2019 where we were joined by Aryth on drums, which allowed us to go on a series of concerts in early 2020 to promote the EP.
Your first EP Desekration Manifesto released at the end of 2019 by Atavism turned me over like a pancake! It's not common to take a black/death shell that stinks of danger like that! How did you get to this point?
As you point out, the notion of "danger" played a determining role in that: I think that today too many Black metal bands are just pastiches of a style that has gradually been disguised with the emergence of watered-down sub-styles (post-black metal in particular), getting lost in musical nonsense devoid of any dangerousness, i.e. free of what is supposed to be the very nature of this style: hate.
With HEXEKRATION RITES I wanted to go against this deviance by presenting my vision of a hateful and glorious music, all carried by powerful and punchy riffs.
Listening to you, we necessarily think of the great masters such as Archgoat or Blasphemy but at the same time you quickly get us into your thing...What are your main influences ?
Our influences are located where we can draw the essence that animates us. Without naming any names in particular, I would say that our music is a mix of chaotic Black metal, occult Death metal and Bestial Black metal, and that's enough I think to synthesize perfectly our purpose: a sulfurous, esoteric and intense music.
Are you working on an album, and if yes, when will we have the privilege to get slaughtered ?
We are indeed working on an album to follow up the demo and the EP. About ten tracks are being finalized for a total duration of about an hour: rather long for the style, but if all the tracks are worth it then so be it. There is not really a date for the moment, because even if the musical composition is almost finished, there is still a lot of additional work to be done, so let's say at the earliest (and ideally) end of 2021, if not during 2022.
What is striking in Desekration Manifesto is the place given to ambiences, in a subgenre where they are sometimes missing... And I like ambiences! Did you consciously take care of this ?
An ambiance is a context in which we find ourselves, an atmosphere in which we are transported, an aura that grabs us by the throat and overwhelms us with the multitude of emotions initially infused during its creation. To want to create a musical atmosphere is therefore to want to make us feel this desire to add a particularly powerful emotion, this desire to give substance to the form: in short, it is to want to endow the music with a soul.
Your music exudes a deep satanic aura (if I dared to play on words, I would say a black aura!). Are you a practitioner of black arts? And if so, in which branch?
Whether I answer yes or no, is it really the most important thing? If you feel a deep mystical aura, do you think that it could be the fruit of chance, a sort of accident of fortuitous course of which one would accept the providential consequences? The will of a group of individuals has been implemented by a joint deployment of energy, you have been receptive to it, and that's all that matters: no matter what branch, only the sap that flows through it and the roots from which it comes from count.

What is your vision of our times? What worries you the most? What makes you most happy?
I have had the feeling for several years that we are reaching a kind of civilizational turning point, materialized by a continuous headlong rush that in fact allows the most harmful abuses: radicalization of communitarianism, excessive progressivism, capitalism and globalization pushed to their limits... we ask ourselves every day how it could be worse, and it ends up being worse. At the same time, we are gradually witnessing an awakening of the people, those "normal" people who, with their backs to the wall by financial, social or religious violence, seem to be finally emerging from a desired, even prescribed torpor, and whose shabby mask is no longer enough to conceal decades of lies and sacrifices, on the back of a social contract that is being undermined a little more each day. This glimmer of hope is therefore a source of rejoicing, but it remains only a meagre embers that we will have to maintain and increase in the face of the tsunami that could break out at any moment.

Thank you for your questions! We are supposed to play at the Winter Rising Festival next November, but at the time I'm writing this I can't say if the event will be maintained or not. Of course, no other dates have been planned for the moment due to the political blockage in the face of the health situation, so see you in 2021 for, I hope, other concert dates... and why not the album!
