Il existe au moins deux types de groupes, et donc d'albums : dans la première on va trouver une catégorie de routards privilégiant l'efficacité et sortant des disques surtout pour justifier de nouveaux concerts, et leurs disques ont tendance à se ressembler, ou à rentrer dans une case déjà préexistante, synonyme de sécurité pour le groupe et le public.
Il existe aussi une deuxième catégorie, où l'on trouve des projets plus risqués, qui tentent de faire la nique aux genres musicaux, parfois en réussissant brillamment et parfois en se plantant (le risque étant ce qu'il est...). Imparfait, groupe formé en 2015, fait partie de ceux qui prennent des risques musicalement parlant, en créant un style entre rock alternatif, metal en fusion en mode actualisé, puissance et émotion. Pas facile en 2022 de sortir un album comme "Télema", qui rappelle l"audace de ces groupes des années 90 qui convoquaient hip hop (ici surtout dans le flow d'une chanteuse qui sait aussi chanter), gros riffs, patate de rythme et groove (on pense pêle mêle à No One Is Innocent avec qui Imparfait a tourné, mais aussi Oneyed Jack, le premier Lofofora). Pour autant Imparfait est un groupe de son temps, en témoigne des passages plus pop (comme sur "thérapie") qui renvoient plus à Shaka Ponk. La langue française est ici joliment maniée, et le brassage de styles bien maîtrisé. Il n'est jamais simple de faire un long format avec cette prise de risque musicale, mais Imparfait a des arguments : une chanteuse de grand talent, des riffs ciselés et variés, un sens du groove indéniable et une énergie contagieuse qui doit prendre toute son ampleur sur scène. On pense parfois à une version moins extrême de Jinjer ou à un FFF qui renouerai avec les guitares lourdes, bref, un metal fonky et groovy qui rencontre un rock alternatif bigarré et personnel. Les touches électro disséminées sur ces 13 titre m'ont fait penser aux sous-estimés Senser, et donc à un pan de cette histoire du metal alternatif/fusion qui aujourd'hui gagne à être redécouvert.
Le Groupe fait déjà ses preuves sur scène, voici un album qui prouve en plus qu'il faut compter sur lui musicalement. Imparfait, peut être, mais la musique ne peut pas plus l'être que l'homme, et ce disque m'a vraiment réjoui.
There are at least two types of bands, and therefore of albums: in the first one, there is a category of backpackers who favour efficiency and release records mainly to justify new concerts, and their records tend to sound the same, or to fit into a pre-existing box, synonymous with security for the band and the public.
There is also a second category, where we find riskier projects, which try to challenge musical genres, sometimes succeeding brilliantly and sometimes failing (risk being what it is...). Imparfait, a band formed in 2015, is one of those who take risks musically speaking, by creating a style between alternative rock, fusion metal in an updated mode, power and emotion. It's not easy in 2022 to release an album like "Télema", which reminds us of the audacity of those bands from the 90's who used hip hop (here especially in the flow of a female singer who can also sing), big riffs, rhythm and groove (we think of No One Is Innocent with whom Imparfait toured, but also Oneyed Jack, the first Lofofora). However, Imparfait is a band of its time, as evidenced by the more pop passages (like on "thérapie") which are more reminiscent of Shaka Ponk. The French language is nicely handled here, and the mix of styles well mastered. It's never easy to make a long format with this kind of musical risk, but Imparfait has its arguments: a very talented singer, chiselled and varied riffs, an undeniable sense of groove and an infectious energy that must be fully developed on stage. One sometimes thinks of a less extreme version of Jinjer or of an FFF that would renew with heavy guitars, in short, a fonky and groovy metal that meets a colourful and personal alternative rock. The electro touches scattered on these 13 tracks made me think of the underestimated Senser, and thus of a part of this history of alternative/fusion metal which today deserves to be rediscovered.
The band has already proven itself on stage, and this album proves that it is a band to be reckoned with musically. Imparfait, maybe, but the music can't be more perfect than the man, and this record really pleased me.
