Doom/Death Metal
Doom/Death Metal
How about a little trip to San Jose, Costa Rica? It's there that we have an appointment with the infectious Pazuzu, any barrier gesture will be useless to protect you, because here is the re-release of a putrid demo of ultra old-school and primitive Death Metal (cf-Autopsy) on tempo Doom, Revenant of Blasphemies re-released on CD by Dunkelheit Produktionen.
This four tracks (plus a small final instrumental) was released on cassette in 2017 and today faithfully reproduced on CD. Don't expect a big sound, everything here is fiercely Old-School, in the great tradition of what South American bands revere and know how to highlight. A demo of heavy and dirty tracks, with guttural vocals as much as possible, with a drummer who mistreats his drums with obvious perverse pleasure and Death guitars that ravage the senses. The sound is so harsh and basic that it becomes downright unpleasant at times, which can slow down a frantic listening of the skeud, but the whole breathes so much the bottom of the sewers of San José that it's quite enjoyable.
So, of course, the problem with these ultra-purist bands is obviously that they don't invent anything, and the feeling of "already heard" always ends up getting in your ears, which can be a bit tiring. However, once this "weakness" is detected, we have to admit that these Costa Ricans have a real know-how in terms of heaviness and the smell of death triggered by the instruments, a real macabre atmosphere comes out of these tracks.
With this Revenant Of Blasphemies, Pazuzu started a purely underground "career", with a few splits that followed and a live album. Now we're waiting for a real album to be totally satisfied.
